Gertrude "Gertie" Dunn played shortstop for the Battle Creek Belles in 1951. She then played for the South Bend Blue Sox from 1951-1954 earning rookie of the year in 1952 with a batting average .261 leading her team to the championship of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League which folded in 1954. This led her to join the Allington All-Stars which toured nationally. Madonna starred in the film A League of Their Own and played the part of Gertie Dunn. She was an pilot and crashed her own plane due to engine failure resulting in her death. She was in her 70's.
The item is 5" X 7 1/2". She is in Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame.
