This dovetail is 1.5" thick (twice as thick as the standard) and many times stiffer, yet weighs only 6 pounds. The Losmandy-style dovetail that has become the standard for attaching Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube assemblies to German equatorial mounts, was originally designed as an accessory mounting device, and was not intended to carry the full weight of a telescope the size of the C-14. With the advent of high-precision telescope mounts, automated pointing and unattended imaging, the time has come for an upgrade to your support system. The primary benefit of a thicker, stiffer dovetail support bar is decreased vibration, which eases wind sensitivity and reduces telescope settling time after a pointing move.
