The Wall is a concept album that explores the theme of isolation from peers.
This theme was inspired by an incident during their 1977 Animals tour when Roger Waters, frustrated by a fan climbing the netting separating the band from the audience, spat in the fan's face.
This led him to reflect on the idea of a "wall," prompting him to create an album centered on isolation. Consequently, The Wall featured a harsher and more theatrical sound than their earlier works.
