A bustling pop landscape where numerous references coexist. Rico Sab has since immersed himself in the figures of 1950s popular culture, absorbed them, and given them a second life on his canvases. Together, these iconic characters form a new story. Comics, TV series, films, cartoons, manga, or comics interact, sometimes with difficulty. Daisy winks at Captain America while Peter Pan leaves the imaginary land for Candy. The scene is sprinkled with letters and onomatopoeia specific to comics and cartoons. It's a cosmopolitan environment, but it's more than just a jumble of references. Rico Sab draws a parallel between this popular culture and art history. Around a painting, Dora Maar painted by Picasso emerges, echoing Mickey Mouse. The background responds to the form, evoking classical paintings, which Rico Sab exploits in his technique. The importance of drawing dominates in his patchworks. A thick frame, marked by a black line, stands out. This process is characteristic of the latter part of the 20th century, particularly in advertising or comics. Behind these vibrant colors and imaginary heroes, Rico Sab provides a masked critique of our current globalized society. There are two levels of reading, two possible interpretations in his visuals. He uses naive representations to better awaken our consciousness, our morality, creating a gap. A timeless piece; if you look closely, you'll recognize still-relevant themes.
