My Great Grandpa came to the USA from Germany. He enjoyed speaking in his native language & was also incredibly mechanically inclined.
He lived in upstate NY, close to Amish country. He spent his weekends visiting the Amish to speak in their Pennsylvania Dutch & help them work on their machines.
This little cast iron toy portrays an Amish child/ boy at a school desk - I don't know if he perhaps came from Grandpa's Amish friends.
This small figure/ toy has been around as long as I have lived & Dad said he remembers it from his childhood too.
